Northern Oil and Gas controls over 100,000 net acres in the heart of the Bakken and Three Forks play in western North Dakota and eastern Montana. The US Geological Survey assessment for the Bakken Formation estimated recoverable volumes of between 3.5 and 5 billion barrels of oil, 1.85 trillion cubic feet of associated natural gas and 148 million barrels of natural gas liquids in the United States portion of the Bakken Formation. The Three Forks Formation could yield as much as 2 billion barrels of petroleum, enhancing the sustainability of the play over time, according to a recently completed study by the North Dakota Geological Survey and Department of Mineral Resources.
Northern Oil and Gas is one of the largest non-operating participants in the Bakken and Three Forks play. Northern has participated in over 300 Bakken or Three Forks wells in North Dakota and Montana since 2007 and continues to acquire acreage and working interests in the core areas of Bakken and Three Forks development.
